Blessed  Edmund  Rice  Prayer

O God, we thank you for the life
of Blessed Edmund Rice.
Moved by your spirit he opened his heart
to Christ present in the poor.
Inspired by his faith and generosity
may we follow his example in our lives.

We pray that we too
would hear the call of the poor
and respond in love and service.
Renew in us his Spirit and vision.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Edmund Rice is represented as an ordinary man, who was, in fact, extraordinary. In a massive simple gesture he holds up the Bible which serves as a base for a model of his school, as indeed it did for the whole concept of the Christian education. He looks out over the city proclaiming and upholding his great ideal, aloof, visionary and dedication. A schoolboy footballer backed by Edmund Rice holds firmly to the security of his cloak and looks thoughtfully at his school.
