The Centre has a management committee auspiced by Trustees of the Christian Brothers to oversee its work. Its members include members of the Christian Brothers, staff of the Australian Catholic University and community representatives.

    BACKGROUND

The Centre was established to commemorate the work in matters of social justice of the Founder of the Christian Brothers, Edmund Rice.  The Centre was established in 1996, the year of Edmund Rice's Beatification and in the International Year for the Eradication of Poverty.

    RECONCILIATION

The Christian Brothers are committed to Aboriginal Reconciliation and this is evident through the Edmund Rice Centre for Justice and Community Education at Croydon in New South Wales.  One of the many areas the Centre has involvement with is the "Let's Talk" - local project where in partnership with the Aboriginal communities of Weilmoringle, Goodooga, Brewarrina and Lightning Ridge in north-western New South Wales, the opportunity to live with and learn with Aboriginal people has been very successful.
